What the Hell...

So today I was browsing Facebook just mindlessly scrolling through different posts when I came across a post from a friend in the states.
The post was in regards to a tattoo shop being told they may have to close their doors.

Read the Article..

Anyway, It appears the main reason the residents don't want the tattoo shop to continue doing business is because "people said they didn’t want Milltown to become tattoo alley"

On the 14th of May the proposal was voted out, meaning the proposal was no longer going ahead ...till.....
The Rabbits Den Tattoo Parlour just hours ago posted this status via their Facebook Fan Page:

"While we thought we had a small victory with reaching out to the town about this ordinance banning tattoo shops in town 2 weeks ago, we were apparently wrong.

They are going to try and put through the legislation tomorrow, Tuesday 5/28 at 7:30pm. It has been revised, so now the law will prohibit tattooing everywhere in town except for along Ryders Lane.

What if we want to buy a building here a...long Main st? What if our landlord doesn't renew our lease? What if an act of nature ruins the building?
We are screwed and either have to move to Ryders Lane, or fight the town for a variance?

Why isn't the town protecting us? We have done as much as we can to be a part of and give back to our community, how insulting and hurtful that they need to try and weed us out of their main st area?

And if the issue is the town doesn't want anymore tattoo shops opening, I would think there would be another way of limiting the number of businesses that can be permitted here?

Anyone interested, we would love to see you at the town meeting tmrw at 7:30. Anyone that knows anything that might help us, please send me over an email Janie@RabbitsDenTattoo.com"

Could this town be anymore backwards in their thinking?? It truly is amazing that in this day and age where tattoos are now common place pretty much everywhere you look, that a town is trying so hard to make themselves the most intolerant town in America...

After posting this on my own Facebook, it was then brought to my attention that this sort of thing was happening in our own backyard.

Have a read of this article posted in The Dailey Telegraph

READ HERE

With comments like "Each application would be assessed on its merits but, historically, tattoo parlours have attracted some level of violence and criminal activity" said by Harbourside local area commander Allan Sicard.
&
"A tattoo parlour is out of keeping with the area's village atmosphere and will bring organised crime into Mosman" said by Mosman councillor Simon Menzies, anyone would think I am quoting comments taken from a newspaper published in the 50's and 60's.

What do you think?? Is this flat out intolerance and discrimination?
or
Is it completely fair and understandable?

I have no words to describe how shocked I am that this sort of thing is still happening?
... I'll let you decide.

MASSIVE MAY!!

We have dubbed this month MASSSIVE MAY for several reasons....
1. This May is filled with some fucking awesome gigs ...ALL AROUND AUSTRALIA
2. We are massive...as in fat.
3. This month starts with M so Massive suits it quite nicely, it there were no gigs then it would be micro May.

Aanyway... enough bullshit.... Here are just a few things to look out for this Massive Month of May!!!

First Up....

AWESOME!

40 CUSTOM CAFÉ RACERS + THE SNOW DROPPERS + WES PUDSEY AND THE SONIC ACES + THE COPE STREET PARADE + DJ Brian (shake rattle and roll) + DJ's THE ROCKABILLY RHINO & WOLFMAN DAN (liquored up & lacquered down 99.3fm)

Throttle Roll: A classic and custom motorcycle show that showcases the culture around the machine.

Roll down on May 11th for Sydney’s biggest day in Café Racer Culture! With 40 custom motorcycles on show, live music in the carpark by Sydney’s Blues Rockers, THE SNOW DROPPERS, rockabilly legends WES PUDSEY AND THE SONIC ACES, and gyspy swing sweethearts, THE COPE STREET PARADE.

Throttle Roll showcases restored and preserved bikes to motorcycle enthusiasts and the local community. Unlike your typical motorcycle show, there is no judging or awards, just fame and notoriety. The unique collection is here to be enjoyed, talked about and admired! Enjoy a killer day with the tastiest lunch and the coldest drinks.

Café Racers have a long history in the world of motorcycles. Originating in the U.K in the 1950’s when the youth began modifying standard bikes, they raced from café to café sharing and competing amongst their passion for two wheels. Their choice of music; Rock and Roll, unbeknownst to them influencing now mainstream culture and in turn inspiring some of our greatest films, fashion trends and bands.

Throttle Roll will be on rail, hail or shine it will take place within the Vic Hotel and in their outdoor carpark.

These riders come from all walks of life. From driving public busses to curating art galleries to CEO’s of major agencies – A passion for Café Racer culture forges them together as one.

THEN

Ahead of the May, 2013 Australian tour by Texan psychobilly legends The Reverend Horton Heat, The Reverend himself has upped the ante and announced that rockin' local gal Mojo Juju will be joining the tour for shows in Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, Ferntree Gully including a newly announced extra Melbourne show at Caravan Music in Oakleigh.

Smooth, shiny & loaded with sin. Mojo Juju sings songs that sound like that night you can't quite remember, in that bar you swear you weren't at, with that girl you promise you've never met. Taking influence from (but never mimicking) the sounds of Jump, Hoodoo & Early Blues, Pachuco Boogie, Rock ‘n’ Roll and a
little bit of Bump & Grind, Mojo has created something undeniably her own.

Her debut solo album (released Sept 2012, through ABC/Universal) is a collection of songs based around vice and consequence. They are songs about recklessness and regret, love and lust, infidelity, death, trains, cars and bad, bad hangovers. Dense with imagery of truck stops, diners, dive bars and cheap motels; this is a soundtrack to living life on the road.

The Reverend returns with his white hot band to deliver the good word from the bible of high-octane rock 'n' roll for his Australian disciples this May. A born hell-raiser of the non-manufactured kind The Reverend brings a real sense of danger back to rock 'n' roll, stories of sex, drugs, booze, and cars all set to a breakneck soundtrack of trailer trash guitars, street-level boogie grind and hell bent rhythm and booze.

A Man Called Stu

+ The Morrisons + The Rusty Spring Syncopators

A Man Called Stu aka Stu Arkoff, infamous former frontman of cult-icons Zombie Ghost Train, returns to the live music world with a new band, for his first show in over five years. It's a welcome return for the darkly charismatic singer who is launching his new sound, 'Swampy-tonk': surf-swamp meets classic 50's country and honky-tonk. Think Johnny Cash singing on a Spaghetti Western soundtrack scored by Tom Waits and produced by Lee Hazlewood.

Stu's influential style has seen his music featured in movies, documentaries and TV shows including the hit American southern vampire series 'True Blood'.

A Man Called Stu's new project has a killer live sound featuring local music royalty Roy 'Big Daddy' Payne (Don Walker, The Whiteliners) on pedal steel, Jordan C. Thomas on double bass and Danny Heifetz (Mr Bungle, Link Wray) on drums.

Don't miss Stu's return to the stage as he reveals the next chapter of his musical evolution: swampy, twangin' and hauntingly good.

Faptastic Band of the Week - The Brains with The Monster Within

GOOD NEWS!!!

The NEW Brains album 'The Monster Within is available.

Look at that Album Art.... LOOK at it!!!!!
This Brains are like horny teenagers who have just discovered masturbation.....
They just don't STOP!

One thing that I really must say about this band is just how freakin solid and consistent they are.

After each album I find my self wondering 'How the fuck are they gonna beat that??'
Then they release an album and answer that question.

From the very get go the title track 'Monster Within' really sets the pace in which this album was constructed. They also explore tracks about life on the road (Rolling Down in particular) and answer a question I have often asked myself  'What would a Brains instrumental sound like?' Naturally they answer that question with their track 'Cucaracha In Leather' a very hauntingly amazing track that has many different elements to it including a hint of surf!

I can quite simply sit here and tell you every damn cool thing about this album including how freakin awesome the production is and how each and every track is pretty much unskippable (I did however find myself repeatedly playing Rolling Down over and over again because it's just so damn infectious!

Instead I want you to go buy their music. If you haven't heard of the brains before, go check out their Youtube videos and go get a taste of what to expect... but be warned, they're mighty infectious.. like syphilis.
Ok fine here is a lil taste ....

NOW go buy this album and all their other albums as well as a shirt.... BUY ALL THE THINGS!!!

Heya Folks!!!

G'day!
Long time no blog!
We are MEGA excited about this.... what are we talking about??

Principal Entertainment presents the return of Texas psychobilly legends The Reverend Horton Heat, live in Australia in 2013.

The Reverend returns with his white hot band to deliver the good word from the bible of high-octane rock 'n' roll for his Australian disciples this May. Long held as the last true masters of country punk laden rockabilly, The Reverend Horton Heat have built a reputation as one of the most inspiring live bands of their generation, a fact not lost on Australian music lovers who've witnessed The Reverend tear up venues across the country making the man and his band a must see on each and every visit.

Breaking outta Dallas Texas in 1985 Jim Heath aka The Reverend Horton Heat distilled a potent brand of musical moonshine blending the finest elements of punk, country, blues and good time hillbilly rock 'n' roll to come up with a brew that across the span of 9 studio albums remains as fresh and intoxicating as they day it was bottled.  Building a strong cult following during the '90s through constant touring, manic showmanship, and a wicked sense of black humour, The Reverend Horton Heat shared with his contemporaries The Cramps, the role of championing this conglomeration of arcane music styles re-imagined to a point where they once again became vital and fresh.

Rounded out  by Jimbo Wallace on the upright bass and recently returned tub thumper Scott Churilla, The Reverend Horton Heat deliver verses from the gospel of rock with a fervour unmatched and an intensity that can only be described as religious.

We should blog more often

Heya Sports Fans.... lol yeah right!

First things first. Mega super duper massive apologies for not posting for a few weeks.
I (Wolfman Dan) have had no use of my computer after the motherboard decided to disown me and get an EVO out on me... I know!! I was shocked too.
So unfortunately that means two things ... 1. I am unable to record the shows, meaning no podcast! :( *wipe those tears away * (Pick what song i stole that from)
and no.2 I normally blog after i upload the show ...so hence the lack of blogging.

Anyways. There have been some great things happening for live music in Sydney as of late.
Most of us (who live in Sydney at least) know about The Annandale Hotel going into receivership. After the Rule brothers were unable to keep going, after 13 hard years battling the council, Neighbours and other nonsense.
Anyways I thought I'd share a few articles that have been posted recently in regards to live music in Sydney and also what the Leichardt Council are doing....
Also I have included a past show from many moons ago!!!

Enjoy!!!
